SHERRY KELLY: FOUNDER & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

I am the Founder and Executive Director of For Our Common Good, a community-based nonprofit whose mission is to heighten the visibility and stimulate support of our local nonprofits regardless of their location.

After learning of the struggles of small local community nonprofits and how adversely the COVID-19 pandemic impaired their ability to serve their communities, I recognized their need for support.  

I began by reaching out to various local nonprofits to gain more insight and understand their struggles. After connecting with several nonprofit directors, I better understood the significant community support gap and their need for greater visibility.  As Kelly Hamilton, Executive Director of KinderMourn, Inc., a Charlotte, NC nonprofit, shared in a discussion with me:  "This is what makes For Our Common Good so helpful, bringing attention to the smaller nonprofits - those that don't have long-time donors they can rely on."

Following much contemplation, I decided to leverage my 30 years of corporate experience in media (Viacom Entertainment Group), finance (Morgan Stanley and Houlihan Lokey Howard and Zukin) and the legal fields (Womble Bond Dickinson) where I acquired self-management, project management, organizational and relationship-building skills - - skills that created a solid foundation for my transition into the nonprofit sector as the Founder and Executive Director of For Our Common Good. 

I believe that small local charities are the backbone of our communities and are truly unsung heroes.  At For Our Common Good, our original mission to boost visibility in support of our local nonprofits has evolved tremendously and now includes making donations.  

It's my privilege to play a part in supporting our communities.
